Media personality Mwanaisha Chidzuga will face off with her brother for the Matugu parliamentary seat in the upcoming 2022 General Election.

Chidzuga, who declared that she would contest for the parliamentary seat, on Monday, September 20, was endorsed by a section of her family.

The former news anchor thanked the elders and the family members for endorsing her candidature stating that she would continue with her late mother’s legacy.

Chidzuga is the daughter of the late Zainab Chidzuga, who served as Kwale Woman Representative between 2013 and 2017.

"I want to thank the elders for trusting me with this heavy task of filling the gap left by my mother by vying for the Matuga Parliamentary seat,” Chidzuga stated.

The media personality also stated that she would serve residents of Matuga constituency diligently if elected for the seat.

“I have accepted the endorsement and I want to state that I will carry out my duties diligently if I am elected as the member of parliament next year,” Chidzuga stated.

On the other hand, the anchor’s brother, Hassan Chidzuga, also declared his bid for the seat, insisting that there was no rivalry or disagreement between the two.

“What is happening is that everyone is just declaring their interest in the seat. There is no rivalry or bad blood. It just that she has come out first to declare her bid.” he stated.

“I am also declaring that I will be vying for the seat. We will sit down and decide who will run for the seat on behalf of the family,” Hassan indicated.

The family endorsement gives Chidzuga the upper hand since the family is known to have great political influence in Matuga.

The Chidzugas are related to former Cabinet Minister Chirau Ali Mwakwere - a longtime Matuga MP.

The two siblings are yet to declare if they will be vying for the seat on a party ticket or as independent candidates.

The seat is currently held by Kassim Sawa Tandaza. Tandaza was elected on Amani National Congress (ANC) ticket.
