Kenyan billionaire Zedekiah Kiprop alias Buzeki has narrated that while he was joining politics in 2017, he spent Ksh2 million to purchase Jubilee Party membership cards.
He recalled that while joining the ruling party associated with President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto, they were required to each become a member and purchase a card that would be used in the party's voting process.
He added that even after purchasing the membership cards, they were eventually discarded.
“For us in Jubilee, we were told to buy plastic cards for registration and that they were to be used to vote. I bought cards worth Ksh2 million, but we eventually threw them away,” Buzeki recalled.
He added that most of the Kenyan political parties are used as money making entities by individuals.
He cautioned Kenyans to resist the urge of voting on party and focus on policies by individuals.
“I am telling Kenyans as we approach the 2022 General Election to focus on people who will work, do not look at the party as parties have no owners,” he noted.
He added that parties in the previous elections made promises to Kenyans, but none has yet fulfilled the promises they made.
He accepted that it would be difficult for a person, including him, to compete with a person who is believed to be a member of a popular party in a particular region.
“Yes, I know there will be a level of difficulty but still at the moment, I believe people's mindsets are changing because since I, together with likeminded leaders, we have showcased a total difference in how we offer leadership,” he added.
He noted that leaders should try contest on other unpopular parties in different regions. He added that even though he lost in the previous elections, he did not stop serving the people of Uasin Gishu.
“Since I lost the elections, I have done a lot of work. For example, recently I have arranged that youth from Uasin Gishu go to Qatar and yet I am not in government,” he noted.
He also stated that he was not against Deputy President William Ruto and the only issue is that they differ in their political views.
The outspoken billionaire has expressed interests in the gubernatorial position for Uasin Gishu County.
