Politician Mike Sonko is offering a cash reward to anyone who will give information on the whereabouts of suspected serial killer Masten Wanjala.
On Wednesday, October 13, Sonko expressed his disappointment after learning that Wanjala had escaped from the Jogoo Road police station where he was being held.
The former Nairobi Governor said he was willing to give Ksh200,000 to any person that will provide police with relevant information that will see Wanjala rearrested.
His sentiments were echoed by Kamukunji Member of Parliament Yusuf Hassan who noted that the police should be held accountable for the mysterious disappearance of Wanjala.
Hassan added that Wanjala posed a threat to the security of minors in the country, calling on the police to apprehend him immediately.
"I’m shocked to hear this serial killer has escaped. This is unacceptable. This guy poses a real threat to our children. @IG_NPS, @NPSC_KE @DCI_Kenya must ensure that he’s taken off our streets quickly and placed behind bars," the Kamukunji lawmaker stated.
Sentiments by Hassan and Sonko come amid cries by families of Wanjala's victims who were left mourning their children. Sonko had offered help to two families who lost their kids.
The 20-year-old man was arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for allegedly kidnapping and killing two minors. While the detectives were probing the crimes, the families were planning how they would inter their kin.
Sonko moved in and helped the two families with the funeral plans and he offered cash to plan the burials. His team also assisted families to ferry loved ones to the funeral services outside the county.
Wanjala confessed to killing two minors aged 13 and 12 following their disappearance on June 30 and July 7, 2021, in Shauri Moyo.
He led the sleuths to the spot where he claimed to have committed the act and disposed of the bodies in Kabete, Kiambu County.
The suspect had contacted one of the minor’s mothers demanding a ransom of Ksh50,000 to secure his release. He then reportedly contacted the other minor’s father and asked to him send Ksh30,000 in ransom.
