NTV news anchor Dann Mwangi on Monday, October 18, shocked Kenyans by diving into a hotel pool during the 9 PM news bulletin.
Before taking the dive, the journalist explained that he was making the daring move live on air, after one of the viewers made fun of him for forfeiting an earlier challenge that he had made.
Mwangi went ahead to state that he was redeeming himself to prove to the viewers that he knew how to swim.
"Someone said that I jump like a frog, I am here to redeem myself. We are also here by the poolside in Sagana," he stated.
During an earlier news bulletin on Sunday, October 17, Mwangi had challenged the viewers to dare him to dive into the Sagana River. However, the journalist did not undertake the anticipated challenge.
"Yesterday when we were doing NTV at one, I had dared that if you say ‘ngwee, I was going to dive into Sagana river," he further explained.
The journalist also disclosed that he could not take on his earlier challenge of diving into the Sagana River because it was dangerous.
“I was advised that you are not allowed to dive into a river because no one knows what the river can carry along," he disclosed.
After the journalist dived into the pool, NTV took the opportunity to make fun of the journalist for his daring move through a tweet on their official twitter handle. They went ahead to joke stating that the journalist was a man of his word.
"Dann Mwangi redeems himself after jumping into Sagana River like a frog," NTV tweeted.
Before diving into the water, a member of the camera crew was also heard giving further directions to the journalist asking him to do a backflip.
"Just because I can, I will do it the way I am. However, I will respect the pool and remove my shoes," Mwangi stated.
The journalist was then seen leaning back towards the pool before doing a backflip as he dived into the water.
Kenyans took to social media to air their views on the journalist’s daring challenge. Others also took the opportunity to make fun of the journalist for swimming in his three-piece suit.
“I sold this suit to him yesterday, and he has decided to swim in it. But that was a good one! I had to go out and do the same," Wamboi Wangechi, a Nairobi-based suit dealer tweeted.
In response to his designer’s tweet, the journalist replied with a laughing emoji.
