"Indeed, we are advising all motorists to avoid this road and use Mombasa Road on Waiyaki Way for the sake of the Marathon," he explained.

The event is expected to attract participants from Kenya, Uganda and Ethiopia.

A member of the Marathon's organising committee revealed that the event, which did not take place in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, was moved from Uhuru Highway to Southern Bypass due to ongoing construction of the Nairobi Expressway.

"We are very excited this year to have the physical marathon. We couldn't have it last year because of Covid-19 but we have learned a lot and we consulted widely, including with the Ministry of Health and with the Ministry of Sports.

"The physical run will be held on the 31st of October. We have changed the route this year. We start and finish the race on Carnivore Grounds mainly because the Uhuru Highway is under construction," the representative explained.

In 2019, the event took place along Uhuru Highway, Mombasa Road, Forest Road and Nyayo Stadium route.

The affected roads are Museum Hill, Forest Road, University Way, Kenyatta Avenue, Harambee Avenue, Haile Sellasie Avenue, Lower Hill Road and Langata Road.

In the past event, Kenyans scooped 7 positions of the Top 10 in the marathon.
