Kirinyaga Woman Representative Purity Ngirici has broken her silence after Governor Ann Waiguru announced that she had joined United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party led by the Deputy President William Ruto.

Waiguru's decision was set to cause disquiet in the party since Ngirici had earlier declared her interest to vie for the gubernatorial position.

Speaking in Kirinyaga on Tuesday, October 26, Ngirici openly welcomed Waiguru into the party but cautioned that she won't back down in her quest for the county's top seat.

"There are those who were singing that no one could stop reggae. You know some of them say that they have joined our camp this morning to join hands with us since they are listening to Wanjiku.

"What made me happy was that they said they listened to what you (the voters) are saying. You have said that you will support those who help you," she stated.

She further explained that she would support Waiguru only if she is defeated in the nominations and challenged her to do the same.

She also noted that she would champion Kirinyaga residents' needs and respect their wishes in the upcoming nominations.

"I tell them that I have welcomed them into Hustler Nation and they should listen to Wanjiku. Since they have come late, as the gubernatorial aspirant in the party, I am asking them to humble themselves, go through the nominations and I am ready to face them because I am not afraid.

"If the people of Kirinyaga decide that you are going to be their Governor, well and good. I will seat back and support you. If I defeat you, you should also accept," added Ngirici.

Waiguru officially joined UDA party during a meeting with Deputy President William Ruto on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 morning.

The governor made the move amid speculations from political pundits that she would have lost her seat if she attempted to defend it on the ruling Jubilee Party.

She intends to defend her gubernatorial seat using the UDA party. Her husband, Lawyer Kamotho Waiganjo noted that he supports her 100 per cent.

“I support her 110 per cent. That is her prerogative. Respect demands that I support her,” Waiganjo stated, adding that this was solely Waiguru’s decision, to which she had the right and freedom to make.
