Former Kakamega Senator, Boni Khalwale, came under criticism from a section of Kenyans after alleging that Kasparet MP, Oscar Sudi's academic papers were in question simply because he is a supporter of Deputy President William Ruto.

Speaking during an interview on Thursday, October 28, Khalwale compared Sudi to Mombasa Governor, Hassan Ali Joho, decrying that the later had not been subjected to such kind of a public trial.

In addition, Khalwale claimed that there were many governors, currently in office, who do not hold the minimum requirement of a Bachelors degree.

"We all know that courts have made a statement on the education or lack of it by the Governor of Mombasa, Joho. He has never been subjected to this kind of trial in the court of public opinion. It is a waste of time," Khalwale stated.

The former Senator went on to name some leaders who have been in Parliament but never had a degree.

"I don't think an MP or MCA require a degree because their role is oversight, what they need is ability to read and write," he continued.

His sentiments were not received well by a section of Kenyans who argued that the matter in question was that Sudi forged the academic papers.

"The issue is not having a degree. The point here is having fake papers. Forgery is a crime in Kenya," a netizen stated.

"Let's not defend mediocrity. Forging academic papers should be declared criminal offence," another added.

The Kenya Institute of Management (KIM) disputed a Diploma Certificate reportedly acquired by Sudi in 2005 from the institution.

Breaking his silence on the matter, Sudi, on Wednesday, October 27, condemned individuals prosecuting his case in the court of public opinion and urged them to wait for the court process to take its course.

"When it is my turn, I will produce over 50 witnesses on my side," he stated.

He blamed the media fraternity for fanning the flames on the allegations and claimed that they were peddling lies around his case.
