A Boda Boda rider duped his family into believing that he had been kidnapped and that his abductors wanted a ransom worth Ksh60,000.

Evans Akaya, caused panic among his family members, specifically his wife and mother, when he stated that his kidnappers would kill him if the money was not remitted.

Realising the harm he had caused to his family members, Akaya went back home, confessed and asked to be forgiven.

"I am requesting my family members and the government to forgive me and allow me to continue hustling," he stated.

Authorities have, however, stated that he will need to record yet another statement, detailing why he duped his family members.

Akaya also appealed to members of the public to help him get a motorbike, adding it would go a long way in helping him start a small business.

The incident came just days after a woman of Asian descent was arrested in Parklands, Nairobi, for faking a kidnap.

Yuan Thi Hua, was arrested by police in an apartment where she had been staying for days.

She had demanded a ransom of Ksh500,000 from her unsuspecting boyfriend.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on Wednesday, October 27, however, the Officer Commanding Kilimani police station, Muturi Mbogo, revealed that the woman was not in her right state of mind when she orchestrated the 'kidnap'.

"We discovered that she had a psychological problem and was taken for counselling," Mbogo disclosed.
