Two children were burnt to death while sleeping in their house in Gakwegori area, Embu West Sub County, on the night of Friday, October 29.

The children, aged five and four, had been left alone by their mother who had reportedly gone to deliver food to her husband who works as a night guard in the neighbourhood.

The cause of the fire was yet to be established by the time of going to press.

Kiangima Sub Location Assistant Chief, Patrick Muriithi, confirmed the incident saying that the mother raised an alarm when she found the house up in flames.

Alarmed, neighbours rushed to the scene in a bid to put out the fire. They were, however, too late.

The bodies of the two minors were taken to the Embu Level Five Hospital Mortuary.

At the same time, authorities have cautioned parents against leaving their children unattended at night.

The incident came a month after a single father lost his three children in a fire in Elburgon area of Nakuru County.

The children, two girls and a boy aged 6, 5, and 4 years, had been left in the house alone at the time of the tragic incident.

Their father had left the house to buy milk from a nearby shop and had left a charcoal jiko burning in one of the rooms.

He, and the children, had been living in the house alone since he separated from his wife in 2019.

Locals told the media that the children would be left alone at night as their father worked in one of the fuel stations as a nightguard.
