Police officers arrested a recruit while on duty after they suspected him of colluding with locals to break the law.

In a dismissal notice seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the suspect was apprehended inside the Administration Police Training College in Embakasi, Nairobi over the weekend.

The detectives, who ambushed the recruit, noted that they found him in possession of marijuana and other banned substances.

On Saturday, October 30, the police constable was discontinued from studies and also relieved of his duties.

“He was found in possession of seven rolls of bhang and three sachets of kuber - smokeless chewable tobacco - while being actively engaged on duty."

“After interrogation, he disclosed that he acquired the substances from a casual labourer,” the police report read.

They added that a team was sent to track the labourer who was also arrested. They found him with two rolls of bhang.

“Both suspected were held at a police station and will be arraigned,” the report added.

The National Police Standing Orders state that a complaint may be filed against a police officer if alleged to have consumed intoxicating liquor or psychotropic substances and other drugs while wearing service uniform or actively engaged on duty in a public place.

Other accusations include being found sleeping while on duty, without reasonable cause, failing to attend any parade, instruction class or court or any other duty which he is required to attend.

Detectives filing a complaint against accused officers are required to highlight the particulars of the act or omission, the date and location of the occurrence of the act complained against; and a statement to the effect that no disciplinary action has been taken against the member.
