Former Kakamega Senator, Boni Khalwale, on Saturday, November 6, made an offer to Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader, Musalia Mudavadi, that would see him join government.

Speaking in Navakholo, Kakamega County, Khalwale wooed Mudavadi, asking him to become Deputy President William Ruto's running mate in the August, 2022 poll.

He guaranteed Mudavadi that he would become president in 2032, after Ruto finishes his two terms as the head of state.

"Ruto becomes the president, and you his deputy. After 10 years, the man is gone, Ruto out, Mudavadi in," Khalwale stated.

The former senator, who is hoping to make a political comeback as the governor of Kakamega, advised the ANC leader and his Ford Kenya counterpart, Moses Wetang'ula, that the only way to form government was to have a unified Luhya vote. He told the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) principals that as good Ford and ANC were, they were no match for stronger national parties.

"Ford Kenya and ANC are our parties but can only win the MCA, Woman Rep and MP seats," Khalwale remarked.

Now affiliated to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), the former senator advised Mudavadi and Wetangula to dissolve their political parties into one party.

In addition, he stated that for them to ensure that the Luhya get a slice of the national cake, the newly formed party should form an alliance with another political party.

"You will keep on wasting time on small village parties, yet those who will be leading the country will be those that have national parties," the ex-senator remarked.

Khalwale recalled how Kijana Wamalwa first ran for the top seat under Ford Kenya and lost, before forging an alliance with the retired president, Mwai Kibaki, and formed government in 2002.

DP Ruto is yet to reveal who he will pick as his running mate, but analysts have predicted that he will probably lean towards the vote-rich Mount Kenya region. Nonetheless, several leaders such as Martha Karua (Narc) and Mwangi Kiunjuri (The Service Party) have turned down the position.

Wiper Party Leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, who has had a love-hate relationship with Ruto, stated that he was willing to work with him.
