Laikipia Woman Representative Cate Waruguru on Wednesday, July 21, announced her re-defection to Deputy President William Ruto's camp ahead of the 2022 general elections.

According to the People Daily, Waruguru stated she would support DP William Ruto for the presidency after holding consultative meetings with her constituents.

Waruguru was speaking in her county when she met with women groups from her region. She claimed that her supporters advised her to work with DP Ruto.

She was initially part of the DP's campaign team but in 2020, she defected to the Jubilee wing associated with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“After attending over 40 meetings with wananchi on the ground I have discovered what the people want. As a wise woman, I’m saying William Samoei Ruto is the best bet for the presidency,” Waruguru was quoted.

Waruguru has been making the subtle statement against her ally ODM leader Raila Odinga after he was jeered by a section of youth in Githurai.

After Jubilee Party lost the Kiambaa Parliamentary seat to United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Waruguru stated that she might consider shifting her allegiance to another party if Jubilee failed to solve some of their problems.

A section of political leaders wanted the top leadership of Jubilee reconstituted following the defeat in the by-election where their candidate Kariri Njama lost to UDA's John Wanjiku.

Kieni MP Kanini Kega blamed Jubilee's top leadership for the defeat in the Kiambaa. He declared that top leaders of the party needed to pave way for fresh leadership.

He blamed Jubilee's Secretary General Raphael Tuju, Deputy Vice Chair David Murathe for failing to offer leadership during the polls which led to the defeat.

He further argued that they failed to show up on the ground and offer support to Jubilee candidate Kariri in Kiambaa.

On the other side, Garissa Town MP Aden Duale stated Jubilee Party had serious structural problems. He claimed that the key organs of the Jubilee Party ceased to function.

However,  Tuju defended himself stating that the elections witnessed a low voter turnout as compared to a general election. He also promised to revive the party after the Juja loss.
