Police in Kayole area of Naivasha sub-county, Nakuru, have launched a manhunt for a bodaboda rider who allegedly killed a client over Ksh70 fare.

According to the Naivasha Police Boss Samuel Waweru, the rider attacked his passenger after they allegedly disagreed about the fare to be paid.

Waweru stated that the pillion passenger hired the services of the motorcycle taxi on his way home from a nearby drinking joint. However, when they got to the destination, the two were involved in a quarrel about the fare.

John Kimani, who witnessed the unfolding of the events, claimed that the rider became agitated after his passenger claimed to have forgotten his mobile money pin. Kimani attributed this to the state of the passenger, who was drunk.

Immediately, the two were engaged in a verbal altercation, with the driver increasingly becoming more agitated. He told his passenger to hop onto the vehicle so that they would seek the intervention of a third party – the police.

“In the process, the rider decided to take the drunk passenger to Karai Police Post, but they disagreed further, leading to a fight,” Kimani narrated.

However, when they got to the police post, the sober rider and his rather intoxicated pillion passenger failed to see eye to eye provoking the frustrated rider to use physical force.

The rider took out all his anger on his passenger, beating him senseless, leaving him for dead before fleeing the scene.

Meanwhile, his victim's body lay unconscious. His family found his body the following morning; he had succumbed to the injuries.

Speaking to a local media outlet, Waweru revealed that the police were on the trail of the rider remains at large - as at the time of publishing this story.

“We are still looking for the motorcycle operator who beat his passenger to death in Kayole estate. It’s only a matter of time before we get him,” stated the Naivasha OCPD.

The victim's family, which is still in shock, have demanded justice for their kin.
