The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Wednesday, November 10, announced how Kenyans can still register as voters.

In a press release to the media, IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati, stated that those who were locked out of the Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) can register as voters.

Chebukati stated that eligible citizens can still sign up as voters under the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), which resumed.

"Pursuant to Article 88 (4)(a) and (b) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010 the Commission has resumed the Constituency office-based Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) and Revision of the Voter’s Roll upon conclusion of the ECVR," the IEBC boss stated.

The CVR will be open for Kenyans who want to register as new voters, transfer their registration status, change their particulars and delete names of voters who have passed away.

It will be available in the respective IEBC constituency offices and will run until stated otherwise.

"This will run until such a time that the Commission will publish a gazette notice suspending the CVR exercise to pave the way for Biometric Verification of the ROV as required by law," the statement read in part.

However, the electoral commission insisted that those who previously registered as voters, including in 2017, and those who registered in the just concluded ECVR, need not register again.

IEBC also announced its plans to conduct voter registration for Kenyans residing outside the country. The Chebukati-led commission revealed that the exercise would be held for 15 days between December 6 and 20.

In line with this, the electoral body will publish in the Kenya Gazette the names of registration centres and countries in which registration and voting are scheduled to take place and the period of registration.

On November 2, IEBC extended its ECVR by a week pending a determination of the matter by another court. The commission announced the termination of the exercise on Monday, November 9.
