MP Nassir's Employees Die in Grissly Road Accident

Four employees of Mvita Member of Parliament Abdullswamad Nassir died in a road accident in Mpeketoni, Lamu County on Saturday, November 13.

According to witnesses, the vehicle hit an electric pole after a tyre burst and rolled several times. One of the employees died on the spot, while the three were taken to Mpeketoni hospital where they died on arrival. 

The four are said to have been on their way to Lamu for a series of political gatherings when the accident happened.

The incident was confirmed by the legislator who affirmed that the four were on official duties. 

"Yes, they were all my employees. They died after the tyres of the car they were traveling in burst and rolled," Nassir stated. 

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho sent his message of condolences to the families of the deceased.

"It is with deep sorrow that I receive the news of the tragic road accident that has lead to the death of four members  of Hon. Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir's team namely Mr. Ali Omar Naaman, Ms. Carol Wayua Mueni, Mr. Athman Mohammed Omar and Mr. Elyson Musyoka."

A section of Kenyans and politicians also sent their words of comfort to the bereaved families. 

"My sincere condolences to the families of the deceased. May their souls rest in eternal peace," former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo stated. 

According to data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), road fatalities had increased by 25 percent as of September 20, 2021. 

From January 1, 2021, to September 20,2021, an average of 3,212 people had been killed in accidents as compared to 2,560 people who had died in a similar period of the previous year. 

Traffic police officers have in the past urged motorists and passengers to take caution when using the roads especially as the country heads to the festive season.
