Elgon Place, a 7-storey building that Court of Appeal Judges refused to occupy is set for auction with interested parties invited to submit their bids.

In a notice carried in the dailies on Monday, November 22, Phillips International Auctioneers announced that it had put the building on auction.

The property, which occupies 0.26 hectares, is located along Elgon Road at the junction with Upper Hill Road.

The building has a basement floor comprising parking lots and holding cells. It had been leased to the Judiciary which partitioned judges chambers, offices and six court rooms among others.

The owners of property, Sealink Holdings Limited, noted that the Judiciary no longer possessed or occupied the building.

The occupation of the building has been controversial since 2013 after the Judiciary spent a whopping Ksh70 million, to hire offices that Judges never used.

In September 2013, the then Court of Appeal President Paul Kihara instructed all judges from the Appellate court to occupy the premises.

The judges, however, refused to occupy it arguing that the building was emitting radioactive material that was harmful. That was despite the Judiciary paying Ksh70 million for the building.

Elgon Place is just one of the many properties in Nairobi that have been put under the hummer including a residential building in Kileleshwa and a penthouse on Mirage building in Westlands.

Garam Investments Auctioneers announced that it had been instructed to carry out the auction exercise on the Mirage building pent floor of tower two. The property has a staircase landing, reception lobby and washrooms among others.

Gramo Suites Hotel Apartments, a five-storey block along Durham Road in Kileleshwa has also been put up for auction. Interested parties are expected to deposit Ksh10 million before they are allowed to bid.

In general, over 8 pages of the Daily Nation, Monday Edition, were covered in auction advertisements signalling the battered state of the economy.
