The mother of Tamati Mauti, the man implicated in the murder of a BBC employee in a hotel room in Nairobi has shared an emotional tribute at the deceased's requiem mass held on Wednesday, December 1.
29-year-old was implicated in the murder of BBC project manager Kate Mitchell before taking his own life by jumping from the same building according to preliminary reports.
According to his mother, Mauti was a vocal person who never stopped meeting and making new friends earning the nickname Bwana Raha (Mr Happiness).
Mauti's mother, Monicah, insisted that he was killed disputing police reports that indicated he followed the BBC employee to her hotel room where she allegedly committed the act and before jumping from the eighth floor.
She stated that she was slowly coming to terms with his death who has been greatly portrayed as loving and incapable of hurting anyone.
“I accept the reality and forgive whoever did this to you. You have left me crying forever. But there is hope to reunite in the resurrection,” she emotionally narrated.
Mauti's girlfriend broke down during the requiem mass that was held in Karen.
Before his demise, Mauti was planning to walk down the aisle with his girlfriend this December. On that fateful day, she had booked a room in the same building where the BBC journalist was found dead.
The girlfriend kept waiting until the police came to pick her to record a statement regarding the matter and informed her that Mauti was no more.
"How could someone be so bold, charismatic charming at the same time? This is what made me fall in love with him," she said.
NRG radio presenter Shaquille O'Neill, known as Shaq The Yungin, stated that he met Mauti before his death.
"He would constantly tell me stories of the Bible and I would relate with his words. In fact, Mauti's last words to me were that I should follow Christ. I will forever miss him. He was like a big brother to me," he stated during an emotional requiem.
Until his death, Mauti was the head of communication at a local firm. He had pursued a bachelor's degree in International Relations and Journalism from USIU Africa.
His father had earlier disputed the post mortem results insisting that it's impossible for him to have jumped from eighth floor and sustain minor injuries. He called for the detectives to get at the bottom of the matter.
Detectives are yet to give a conclusive report on the case.
