  • Three families have broken their silence following hours of protests in Kabete after the killing of six people in the wee hours of the morning by a police officer.

Families of three boda boda riders recounted how their kin met death in the tragic Kabete incident while they were leaving their workstations.

On Tuesday, December 7, Winfred Nyambura, whose husband Amos Njoroge was a victim in the mass shooting, told the press that she learnt of her husband's death through a neighbour.

Nyambura tried fighting back tears but she could not control her emotions while she detailed how a neighbour told her of the tragic incident and asked her to go and check if Njoroge was among the victims.

"I met neighbours who told me there was a shooting incident and they told me to go and check if my husband was among the victims. I found his motorbike on the ground," she stated.

A woman who had accompanied Nyambura told journalists that the family will be going to the mortuary to identify the body of the deceased.

An emotional brother of another victim Paul Githinji aka Jadu, also told the press that he learnt of his death in the morning.

Robert Kimani could not hold back tears when speaking and he called on the government to take action after the tragic incident.

Residents had milled around Kimani, while boda boda riders were planning to go on the streets and protest the killing of their colleagues.

A brother of another victim said he was woken up at 3:30am and informed that his brother was shot. He later identified his brother's body in the police vehicle.

"It was 3:30am I woke up and I was told my brother is dead. When I went to the Landcruiser I found four bodies," he stated.

Former colleagues of the deceased described the night as terrifying. The boda boda riders stated that they were at their station when a probox stopped near them and a police officer got out and opened fire.

According to the boda boda riders, the occupant of the vehicle opened fire at the market while a motorcycle was passing close by.

The officer who went berserk is accused of killing his wife before leaving his house and shooting five other civilians. Police had a hard time containing rowdy youths who wanted to break into Kabete Police Station hours after the incident.
