All small and medium size businesses have been directed to enforce an order by the government requiring people to show proof of Covid-19 vaccination before accessing services.

A statement by the Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE) indicated that businesses serving more than 50 people a day should put up signages indicating that they require proof of vaccination from customers before they access the premises.

The federation also advised private businesses to ensure that all indoor gatherings are limited to two-thirds capacity.

FKE stated that all private businesses will be required to implement these measures from Tuesday, December 21, 2021.

"The directives will take effect as from 21st December 2021. The affected premises include churches and other places of worship."

"This, therefore, means that all businesses that serve more than 50 persons a day will have to put up measures to ensure compliance by all their customers and clients. We further advise our members to develop and have an internal policy on Covid-19 to ensure ease of management of the labour force," the statement read.

The FKE statement comes in the backdrop of a directive by Health Cabinet Secretary, Mutahi Kagwe, that warned Kenyans ignoring the Covid-19 vaccination will not be able to access government services.

CS Kagwe urged Kenyans to ensure that they are fully vaccinated before December 21 after which they would be locked out of government services.

He also noted that teenagers above the age of 12 years would be inoculated against Covid-19 from November 23, 2021.

Yaya Centre, a popular shopping mall in Nairobi, announced that it will not allow unvaccinated Kenyans to access its premises from December 21.

In a statement seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the Yaya's management referred to the directive issued on November 21 advising members to show proof of inoculation to access public places serving more than 50 people in a day.

The mall further issued directives to shop owners to enforce the new regulations. They will be required to display signage communicating on the Kagwe directives.

Also roped in are tenants, their staff, suppliers consumers and contractors who will be accessing the facility. Security guards will be put in place to ensure that the new measures are adhered to the latter.
