Top Ford Kenya officials, Tongaren MP Hon Eseli Simiyu and his Kanduyi counterpart Hon Wafula Wamunyinyi have officially decamped to the newly launched Democratic Action Party (DAP-K).
The two made an appearance at the newly launched party’s National Delegates Conference currently underway at the Bomas of Kenya.
Eseli and Wamunyinyi have in the past attempted to wrestle the Ford Kenya Party leadership from Party Leader Moses Wetangula, but have since made the decision to quit and join the handshake-allied party.
“Members have agreed that we shall join a new vehicle, which we will be unveiling on December 14th when we shall be holding our National Delegates Conference (NDC),” Wamunyinyi noted.
“We urge our loyal members who were determined to see a democratic Ford Kenya move with us. We are now part of the handshake team and our spirit is Azimio la Umoja,” he added.
Eseli, on his part, noted that the party did not serve their purpose - citing frustrations from the judicial system when adjudicating the party’s internal disputes.
“We summoned all our County Chairpersons and they agreed to support me. We are tired, and it is time we found our way out. I will give you a clear roadmap on December 14th,” the Tongaren MP stated.
In attendance at the Tuesday convention was ODM Leader Raila Odinga, Defence CS Eugene Wamalwa, Agriculture CS Peter Munya and Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong, among other leaders.
The party is expected to endorse Raila Odinga’s candidature in the upcoming 2022 presidential election under the Azimio La Umoja Movement.
Yet another party, the Pamoja African Alliance (PAA), led by Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi, also threw its weight behind Odinga’s candidature.
According to the Democratic Action Party (DAP-K) website, its idea was conceived in November 2017 and actualized from June 2019, with a vision of having a nation where all citizens enjoy their fundamental political, social, economic, cultural, religious rights and freedoms in an environment of dignity and integrity.
The Party’s officials have been listed as David Simiyu Muchele (National Chairman/Leader), Benard Masaja (Secretary-General), Beatrice Mbingi (Treasurer), and Martin Mulwale (Organizing Secretary).
