New Details Emerge on Neo Kenya Bus Accident

New details have emerged on the Neo Kenya Mpya bus accident that happened on Tuesday, December 14, in Makuyu, Murang'a County.

According to a reports by NTV, the accident involved two Neo Kenya buses hired by students from the Gitobu Mixed Secondary School, Murang'a to ferry them home.

The reports indicate that the one that overturned was allegedly being driven by a conductor who was inexperienced and unauthorised to do so.

Witnesses told the media outlet that the two buses were speeding, closely following one another. The accident occurred when the second bus tail-gated the ill-fated bus.

"As the bus approached a sharp corner, the driver attempted to slow down to enable him negotiate the bend. However, the second bus driver, who was closely following him, hit him at the back," one witness stated.

Consequently, the bus lost control and overturned. On noticing the danger ahead, the actual driver of the bus attempted to jump out of the vehicle.

Unfortunately he lost his life in the process, becoming the only fatality of the incident. Good Samaritans rushed to the accident scene and helped pull the students out of the bus. 

Six students were treated and discharged from the Makuyu Sub County hospital where they had been rushed for first aid.

An additional six students were discharged after receiving medical attention from the Kenol hospital while one is still admitted with a fractured hand.

Two other female students were referred to Thika Level 5 hospital where they are currently under treatment.

The Neo Kenya vehicle was towed to the Makuyu police station.
