President Uhuru Kenyatta has given the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) Director General Mohamed Badi's deputy to a plum government position.

Uhuru on Friday, December 17, appointed the incumbent NMS Deputy Director General, Kangethe Thuku, the Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) in the Department for Correctional Services.

Thuku takes the position in a department that has been under the public radar following the recent cases of prison break that forced the Head of State to make changes that affected the whole government entity. He appointed Brigadier (Rtd.) John Kibaso Warioba to replace Wycliffe Ogalo as the Commissioner General of Prisons.

Badi's deputy was silently appointed to his current position in Nairobi County late 2020, replacing Enosh Momanyi who had assumed the position in January 2020.

Before Thuku’s appointment as NMS Deputy DG, he served as the Interior Principal Secretary in the Office of the President.

In other changes made by President Uhuru to his Cabinet, Principal Secretary Zeinab Hussein was moved from the State Department of Correctional Services to Tourism where she will serve under Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala.

In a swap deal, PS Safina Kwekwe has taken over from Zeinab in the correctional services.

These changes comes after the first partial Cabinet shakeup that took place on September 29. Through a statement by State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena, Monica Juma was moved from the Ministry of Defence to the Ministry of Energy.

She replaced CS Charles Keter who was moved from the Energy Ministry to the Ministry of Devolution.

Eugene Wamalwa, who has hitherto served as Devolution CS, was moved to the Ministry of Defence. The shakeup was meant to streamline service delivery and speed up on his development agenda.
