The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced the recruitment for Chief Executive Officer to fill in the vacancy that was left after Ezra Chiloba exited from the polls body.

In an advert published by the Commission on Friday, December 24, the electoral body stated that it was looking for a suitable candidate who can assume the role even as the country heads to the polls in less than nine months.

The position of the CEO fell vacant after Chiloba fell out with the commission's chairperson, Wafula Chebukati, after the disputed 2017 elections. The position is currently held by Hussein Marjan in an acting capacity.

Among the key responsibilities that the CEO will be tasked with is the coordination of activities at the secretariat as the commission prepares for the 2022 General Election.

“A key part of the responsibilities for this office is to ensure prudent management of the commission's resources, integrity and professional performance of all commission functions,” IEBC stated.

The electoral body added that interested candidates need to have a five year working experience in electoral matters, governance, management, law, finance or political science.

In their advertisement, IEBC announced that there will be two modes of applications, further insisting that only candidates who go through both processes will be considered for the job.

"Interested candidates are required to submit their application both online and in hard copy. Online applications to be accessed through the IEBC jobs portal and the hardcopy application should be addressed to the chairman of the IEBC.

"Only applicants submitting both the physical and online applications will be considered," the electoral body stated.

Additionally, interested candidates have been advised to attach copies of the relevant documents to their hard copy applications.

"The hardcopy applications include copies of certificates, National ID and testimonials indicating the job title on the left corner of the envelope. Applicants are required to submit integrity clearance certificates from respective statutory bodies."

Interested candidates are also required to submit their applications not later than January 21, 2022.
