Relatives of the family of five who perished in a fatal accident on Christmas Day have pleaded with the government to help them bury their loved ones.
While speaking to the media on Tuesday, January 4, the relatives of one of the deceased, Ronald Bundi, explained that they were finding difficulty in making proper arrangements to bury the construction engineer, his wife, and his three daughters.
Through their family spokesperson, the family revealed that they were faced with a budget deficit even as they plan to transport the bodies of their loved ones to their rural home in Kisii County.
"We do not have anything at the moment and that burden is very hectic for us. Transporting the body of the five from Mombasa to Kisii is not an easy task and it is not something that we were expecting.
“Therefore we are asking with humility for the national government together with the county government to kindly come to our rescue," the family spokesperson stated.
Additionally, the family stated that the accident has caused them pain as Bundi was the breadwinner of their family further urging well-wishers to intervene.
"We are going through a lot of pain because he (Bundi) was the one who was helping the whole family because he is the person who was working as he worked in the construction industry.
“Due to the accident the family now has a gap which will take quite some time before we fill it again," one of the relatives added.
While traveling from Mombasa to Kisii for the festive season on Christmas Day, Bundi together with his wife, Veronica Ogake, and their three daughters perished in a head-on collision along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway.
After the accident, Philip Kwenya, a family friend of the deceased family, revealed that the family decided to travel on Christmas Day because they had been held up with other engagements.
“The loss has been tragic. It is something we don't believe. We are finding it hard to come to terms with it.
"They usually travelled every December before Christmas. I think this time he found it a bit busy and travelled on Christmas Day itself," Kwenya stated then.
According to their initial plans, the relatives plan to bury the family of five on Friday, January 7.
