Homa Bay County Woman Representative, Gladys Wanga, confirmed that she was at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters over an audio recording that was making rounds on social media.
In a statement dated Thursday, January 6, 2022, Wanga confirmed that she was at the DCI to file a report after the audio tainted her image.
Wanga accused her political rivals of using innocent members of the public to create the audio which claimed that she was planning violence against her opponent's supporters.
In a strongly-worded statement, Wanga disclosed that she had sought the intervention of the DCI to avoid dragging members of the public in political showdowns and also curb any possible acts of violence.
"I have this morning made a report at DCI on a false audio recording doing rounds on social media in my name," the Homa Bay Woman Representative stated.
"Desperate politicians who have sensed defeat should not use innocent wananchi to propagate unintelligent propaganda that borders on a serious breach of security."
Wanga urged Homa Bay residents to be calm and peaceful promising to ensure that the people behind the audio are brought to book.
"The perpetrators and their masters will soon be brought to book. In the meantime, we will continue to sell our agenda of hope to the people of Homa Bay clearly and peacefully," she added.
Civil society activists and various stakeholders have been keen on promoting peace and political tolerance ahead of the August 9 polls.
The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has severally warned politicians against intolerance and divisive politics.
In a statement in September 2021, NCIC Chairperson, Samuel Kobia, highlighted instances where two leading politicians experienced difficulties while accessing certain regions across the country.
Kobia further warned politicians that whoever intends to misuse innocent youth to cause chaos will face the law.
“We are very alert to deal with incitement and violence. We are not only going after politicians but young Kenyans, who will be used as goons, to either disrupt activities of opponents or cause violence,” Kobia stated.
