Audio obtained by Kenyans.co.ke on Friday, October 15, revealed new details on the demise of Kenyan athlete Agnes Tirop.
In the audio, the husband Emanuel Ibrahim Rotich, who is also the main suspect in her passing, reached out to a friend crying and stating he had reached his end and wanted to die.
Rotich lamented over the relationship with Tirop and thanked the friend for his support and help in solving their marital issues.
He expressed that he wanted to commit suicide and also hinting that he had done a bad thing. The friend became concerned and asked Emanuel about his whereabouts but he refused to answer.
The friend went on to plead with Rotich to come to town or tell him his whereabouts promising to help him solve whatever was troubling him.
However, Rotich continued crying and acknowledged that the friend had been of immense help to the couple, but he had reached his wit's end and he did not wish to continue suffering.
This comes after Keiyo South OCPD, Tim Makori, who spoke to journalists after the athlete's passing, disclosed that parents of both Tirop and Rotich went to Iten Police Station on Wednesday morning following up on a report filed by the deceased's father the previous day, indicating that his daughter was missing.
During their interaction with the police, Rotich's parents stated he had contacted them crying and asked for forgiveness. He, however, had not told them what he had done wrong.
"Alarmed by the statements, police officers resulted to visit their house. When they got inside, they found Tirop on the bed with blood all over. She had been stabbed on her neck," Makori stated.
Residents in the area told journalists that the 25-year-old and her husband had been having domestic wrangles for a while.
They suspected that Tirop had gone to take her belongings from the husband's house when the unfortunate turn of events took place.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased's husband could have been involved in her passing.
Rotich was arrested in Changamwe, Mombasa County on Thursday, October 14. A statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) indicated that Rotich was trying to flee to a neighbouring country.
