It was all tears in Boigesa village, Bobasi Sub-county in Kisii County as five members of one family who perished in a grisly road accident on Christmas day were laid to rest on Friday, December 7.
The family, which hailed in Mombasa, was on its way to Kisii on December 25, 2021, to celebrate the holidays when calamity struck.
Ronald Bundi and daughters Natalia Kemunto Bundi and Claire Kwamboka Bundi died on the spot on that fateful day.
His wife Veronica Bundi, eldest daughter Marion Bundi, and sons Mike and Venand Bundi were rushed to a hospital in Voi before being transferred to the Coast General Hospital.
Veronica, unfortunately, succumbed to the injuries three days later, while Marion passed on while in intensive care six days later, on new years eve.
Mike and Venand are currently recuperating at the Coast General Hospital.
On a heartbreaking occasion, the two were ferried to the requiem mass in an ambulance, on Thursday, January 6, to view the bodies of their departed family members before being returned to the hospital.
“Even as we mourn my brother, his wife, and their three children, we are grateful to God for saving the lives of my two young nephews who are currently in hospital and responding well to treatment,” Casmir Nyabuto, Ronald Bundi’s brother eulogised.
Casmir mourned Bundi as the family’s pillar of strength saying: “Bundi was our last born brother, he has done so much for our family. He was the one who took us to Mombasa where we worked in his company... it’s so unfortunate that their journey home turned tragic.”
Transport Chief Administrative Secretary Chris Obure, who comes from the same village as the deceased, promised to stand with the surviving young boys
"We will support Bundi's two surviving children. We will also endeavor to complete the church he had helped construct," Obure pledged.
Hundreds of mourners attended the final journey of the departed family, which was presided over by Kisii Catholic Diocese Bishop Joseph Mairura.
The remains were interred at their family home in one grave, partitioned into five sections.
