The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) on Monday, January 17, directed its frustrations towards Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Fred Matiang'i over chaos witnessed at Deputy President William Ruto's rally at Jacaranda Grounds.

The chaos culminated in the stoning of Deputy President William Ruto's motorcade as he left the grounds on Sunday.

While addressing the media at the party's offices in Nairobi, the party's Secretary General, Veronica Maina accused Matiang'i of being impartial in how he deals with cases of political intolerance.

"Kenyans are watching to see whether Matiang'i, who has publicly supported Raila Odinga's quest for the presidency, will drop his political hat and act and save them from his political master's crusade for violence," Maina noted

He asked the security boss to take action on members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) command, whom he blamed for the stoning incident.

"UDA demands that the Ministry of Interior and the Kenya Police Service arrest this deteriorating situation," the statement read in part.

Maina further called for a probe into the matter to be expedited and the perpetrators to be brought to book.

The outspoken party official noted that she would write to the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai if no action was taken.

On January 16, the ODM secretariat distanced their party leader and the Embakasi East MP Babu Owino from the skirmishes witnessed.

Instead, they claimed that the DP had been the mastermind of the fracas.

"Violence has been part and parcel of Ruto's brand of politics right from the time he introduced himself to Kenyans through the YK92. Other than the use of money to buy support, violence is Ruto's main tool for political ascendance," ODM's statement read in part.
