Nominated Member of Parliament, Maina Kamanda, has revealed that President Uhuru Kenyatta will soon hit the campaign trail in support of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga.

Speaking during an interview on Kameme TV, Kamanda, who is a close ally of the President, divulged that Kenyatta will hold several rallies in Mt.Kenya to explain to the people his achievement in the region for the last nine years.

He added that he had held private discussions with the head of state who indicated that he would launch a massive campaign towards the August 9 election to campaign against Deputy President William Ruto and all UDA aspirants.

"I have personally spoken with the president and he assured me he will make sure those people don't succeed him. From what I know, the last two months will change everything and I can assure you, there will not be a single candidate in Mt Kenya who will be elected on a UDA ticket. Ruto really blundered after he proclaimed himself Mt Kenya kingpin so just wait and see," the legislator remarked.

Further, he noted that the President, who is serving his last term, would also guide them ahead of the August election, adding that the rallies will be aimed at neutralizing Deputy President William Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in the region.

“Uhuru will be coming to say what he has done and what he wants. Those asking him to remain silent in the coming election should now know that he is coming. He will not leave the country in the hands of bad people," he asserted.

"He will not allow UDA to win any seat from the region. Those politicians who are rushing to join UDA will soon realise that they moved to the wrong side," he observed.

Asked what seat he was planning to vie for in the August 9 election, Kamanda dismissed people who were saying that he is too old to lead.

He revealed that people had told him to go for the Nairobi Senatorial seat in the forthcoming elections.

"I am not old, if people want me to lead them, I will. After listening to them I am hearing them saying Senate," he stated.

Other people who have expressed interest in the Senatorial seat are ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, Director of Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company Karen Nyamu, and gospel singer Royal Smith Mwatia alias Rufftone.

Kamanda has backed Odinga since 2019 when he broke ranks with his Jubilee party and successfully supported ODM's candidate, Imran Okoth, in the Kibra by-elections.
