Trans Nzoia County Police Commander, Jecinta Wesonga, could not hold back her tears following the death of two police officers in Kiminini sub-county.
This was after constable Abel Wandari and Dorcas Chebet were on Sunday, January 23, found dead in their house within Kiungani Police station.
Wesonga confirmed that the two were a couple and Chebet, who was attached to Kiminini Police Station, visited Wandari.
The police boss broke into tears as she addressed the media on the incident that has since been deemed a homicide, cum suicide.
"They are young officers in their late twenties, probably 27 or 28 years of age," the police boss stated, amid sobs.
According to witnesses, the couple locked themselves in the house after a domestic feud.
A few moments later, three gun shots heard, catching the attention of officers at the station and area residents. Officers forced their way into the house, only to find the two lying in a pool of blood.
Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) combing the scene recovered a G3 from the scene with 20 rounds of ammunition, an indication that three bullets had been fired.
The DCI officers are yet to establish the officer that shot the other before turning the gun on him or herself.
"Both were police officers. On the matter on who pulled the trigger, we leave that to the investigating officers,"Wesonga remarked.
Area residents have now called for a probe into the matter, citing an increase in the incidences of police officers who commit murder or die by suicide.
The incident comes barely months after yet another officer, Benson Imbatu, opened fire killing his wife and five others in Kabete, in December 2021.
