Several estates in Nairobi County will experience an eight-hour-long power outage on Wednesday, January 26. This is according to a statement by the power utility firm, Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC).
Kenya Power noted that the outage was a result of planned maintenance activities between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm.
Some of the estates affected by the interruptions include Two Rivers Mall, Whispers Avenue, United Nations Crescent, UN Avenue, Magnolia Close, Parts of Ruaka Road, Mae Properties, Runda Water, Benin Drive, Runda Road, Mimosa Drive, Mimosa Ridge, and Runda Gardens.
Others include Potterhouse School, Runda Mumwe, Glory Drive, Faith Avenue, Pan Africa Insurance, Jacaranda, Masanduku, Gitanga Road Mbaazi Avenue, Gitanga close, Muthangari road and adjacent areas in Lavington.
Kenya Power, however, affirmed that the power would resume after the maintenance time lapsed.
The entity has been on the spot in the recent past over various outages that saw the country experience a nationwide blackout on Tuesday, January 11.
Kenya Power later issued a statement explaining that a tower line at Kiambere - Embakasi had collapsed thus affecting various parts of the country.
"We have lost power supply due to collapsed towers at the Kiambere - Embakasi high voltage transmission power line in the morning," read the Kenya Power statement in part.
Immaculate Kubai, Kenya Power corporate communications officer, who spoke to Kenyans.co.ke, explained that when the main tower collapsed, it affected the supply hence the Kenya power engineers tried to stabilise the grid in order to restore power to the whole country.
"Yes, a transmission power line has collapsed around Embakasi but it is being worked on. It's a national blackout, so when the main line collapses most of the time it affects the supply hence they are trying to stabilise the grid before they embark on supplying to the country," she noted.
