Laikipia Women Representative, Cate Waruguru, has blasted former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary (CS) Mwangi Kiunjuri for declaring his intention to vie for the Laikipia East parliamentary seat.
Speaking in Laikipia on Saturday, January 29, the vocal legislator noted that as a leader of a party, and a kingmaker, Kiunjuri should not contest for a parliamentary seat but engage fellow party leaders.
"You can not be a kingmaker and you still want to vie for an elective seat. If you want to be a kingmaker, you must stand apart and allow your ego to go down," she remarked.
Further, Waruguru asked the Kiunjuri to stop being bitter with the Deputy President William Ruto, United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and lecturing him during press conferences.
The lawmaker explained that The Service Party of Kenya (TSP) leader is confused since he attacks both Ruto and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga.
"Stop bashing people like William Ruto because your party is a village party. Why do you react if you don't own up to a village party? If you know your party is a national one, then move on.
"But we don't want someone who wakes up one day and abuses Ruto, the next day he abuses Raila. Have you become a watermelon? You are in the middle. You are not in Azimio, you are not in UDA, where are you?" she posed.
It's not the first time that Waruguru has called out Kiunjuiri in public. The two leaders reportedly do not see eye to eye because they are both interested in the Laikipia East parliamentary seat.
On Saturday, November 6, she urged the former CS to let youths vie for the Member of the County Assembly, Woman-Rep and parliamentary seats. She further dared him to contest for the country's top seat like other leaders of his calibre.
"Men of your equal stature are bargaining for nothing less than the presidency and deputy president," Waruguru observed.
President Uhuru Kenyatta sacked Kiunjuri in January 2020, relieving him of his duties as Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture.
