Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) has announced the closure of Muthaiga and Kiambu road for two days

Through a public notice issued on Tuesday, February 8, the authority stated that Muthaiga- Kiambu road would be closed from Saturday 12, from noon to Monday, February 14.

KeNHA noted that the road closure would be caused by the ongoing construction of a footbridge along that route.

"This is due to the ongoing construction of a footbridge. All vehicles are requested to use alternative routes," part of the statement released by KeNHA read.

The Highways Authority advised motorists plying that route to use alternative routes. The routes to which traffic would be channeled to due to the closure include the Thika Super Highway, Serengeti Avenue, Mau Park road, Pipeline estate road among others.

Other roads open to motorists include Coffee Garden Dr Road, Ridgeways, and other passable routes within the area.

"All motorists plying the road under construction are advised to exercise caution and observe the traffic controls. We highly regret any inconveniences caused," KeNHA stated.

The road has been one of the projects earmarked for expansion. The national government intends to dual the road from Muthaiga interchange all the way to Ndumberi in Kiambu County.

The dualing is expected to connect Ruiru to Uplands and the entire Githunguri area.

The move to expand the road follows high population caused by the rapid growth in the real estate sector in the area which has resulted into heavy traffic congestion along that route.

Currently, the road has only narrow single lanes despite the area hosting top government and public institutions including the headquarters for the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI).

According to the recommendations made, the residents want the government to introduce non-motorised transport system since the road mainly leads to residential areas.
