President Uhuru Kenyatta shared how he plans to support Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga and consequently endorse him to take over the government.

Speaking to more than 3,000 young people at State House, Nairobi on February, Friday 12, Uhuru disclosed that Jubilee Party would join Azimio la Umoja in a coalition pact.

He further stated that the candidate at Azimio la Umoja (Raila Odinga) will be his preferred successor while dismissing his former ally Deputy President William Ruto.

“And because some were politicking while work was ongoing, we have said we want a coalition unit of like-minded parties and together we join Azimio. We have the candidate, we have the resources and the youth are together with us," the President stated amid cheers from the youth.

The President lamented that Ruto and his confidants in Jubilee Party, mostly drawn from the Mt Kenya region, put his development agenda at crossroads.

He also noted that he was ready to actively campaign and secure victory for Azimio la Umoja. He added that the coalition would put the interests of the youth at the forefront.

“As they speak about Jubilee Party’s death, you can also see what the party has been doing. We have been able to achieve much but there are some projects which are not complete, and hence as Jubilee (Party), we are now coming out of the office getting into real politics."

He advised the youth to be strategic in their desire to ascend to leadership positions, underlining that young people should actively engage with the ongoing electoral processes.

Choosing leaders who value their future and not those that are using them as a ladder for selfish wins, he said, was pivotal for the country's growth and policymaking.

“You must ensure you are fully involved in the political processes. It is the only way to guarantee opportunities and space to drive your agenda in the next administration," he stated.

According to President Kenyatta, Kenya needs political continuity and goodwill for the country to enjoy the full benefits of some of the key infrastructure and social projects.

“To move this agenda forward, we must carefully consider our political choices as we seek to elect a new leadership for this country, a leadership that will not shy away from driving the youth agenda forward,” the President stated.
