Kariuki explained that she told the Head of State that she had extensively consulted her family members and close friends who backed her decision to join the Nyandarua Gubernatorial race.

“When the final moment came when I was to meet with the president to take my letter of resignation, I talked to him and explained to him what had I had decided.

“He asked me if I had thought through the decision extensively. I told him that it was a journey that took quite some time and that I did not just wake up to join politics,” she disclosed.

She further explained that she was close to her family and had to consult them before making a change in her career.

“On several occasions, I thought about the decision. I used to ask myself several questions and answer them by myself. When I went home or met my close friends, I asked them the same thing.

“He(Uhuru) accepted and I wrote my resignation letter and on February 10, I went to bid my boss farewell. I can say I followed due procedure in this,” she stated.

Upon declaring her interest in the Nyandarua gubernatorial contest, the former CS will face off with the incumbent and former secretary to the cabinet Francis Kimemia. The two have indicated that they will contest for the seat on the Azimio la Umoja ticket.

During the interview, the former CS refuted claims that there were ongoing talks for her to deputise Kimemia. She stated that her focus was the county’s top job.

“I cannot solve the issues of development by being a deputy governor. I have not heard of those conversations but when the offer comes, we shall discuss but I cannot take that. I am not ready to take that,” she stated.

Kariuki resigned on Wednesday, February 9 during a live TV coverage from Maji house.
