Cardovillis' ailment began as prolonged chest pains which were later established to be pneumonia upon diagnosis. His condition got worse, resulting in the collapse of one of his lungs.

He also developed an infection around his heart, which requires medical attention and constant review by doctors.

"Sean has been hospitalized for a while now.  He is receiving professional treatment and is improving, but needs monitoring and further care," read the poster circulated by the family.

The family revealed that the money will be used to offset part of the sports presenter's medical bill which has accumulated over time. She added that they have already started receiving contributions from well-wishers.

Media practitioners including sports journalists have wished him a quick recovery and pledged to support the presenter. They also shared the poster on social media, rallying people to raise funds for one of their own.

Cardiovllis was a sports presenter at NTV, where he had a six-year stint before leaving Nation Media Group in 2020. In 2014, he was appointed the Head of Radio at Nation FM.

His media career began at Capital FM in 1997 as a sports presenter and rose in the ranks to sports editor before he left after 8 years. In 2006, he moved to Seychelles, where he presented news at Paradise FM.

Cardovillis ran a sports blog and has been dubbed as the 'Voice of Sport' in the country. A veteran in the industry, he has a soft spot in the World Safari Championships, which he has covered extensively during his career.
