A street artist has become an internet sensation in the country after pulling exciting dance moves and martial arts skills in Nairobi.
David Moya started off by ambushing random people in Nairobi streets before engaging them in martial art skits then sharing the clips to different networking channels.
Moya used to dress in full martial arts attire, traditionally referred to as Keikogi, before pulling the stunts in the streets.
The artist then decided to venture into street dancing, which described his breakthrough.
Before Valentine's Day which is marked on February 14 every year, Moya recorded a video surprising a female tout attached to one of the matatus plying the Mombasa Road route.
The clip which attracted more than 57,000 views on Instagram, showed the female tout get emotional as Moya danced in front of her then went on his knees to gift her a flower.
In a TV interview on Friday, February 18, Moya revealed why he decided to venture into street dancing. The artist told Amina Abdi who hosts The Trend on NTV that he decided to try his new form of art to help end boredom and make people happy.
He stated that he decided to tailor his content to suit people running small businesses across the country and struggling with making sales and other regimes hurting their enterprises.
Specifically, he picked market places where women frequent, knowing that his dance moves would surprise them and put a smile on his fans.
The content creator and choreographer has so far received positive feedback and reception with some of his fans reaching out to advise him on the next plot.
"I used to do more of martial arts stunts which helped me gain male fans. Before Valentine's I decided to try out a new idea to help people who are battling with stress and other life problems," Moya stated.
"The first video I recorded in the market excited the lady until she gifted me and it went viral garnering 3.4 million views."
Further, he noted that he decided to invest in dancing as a source of income, explaining that he comes from a humble background.
Moya detailed that his single mother has also played a huge role in his success. He revealed that the idea of giving flowers to women was inspired by her mother who even volunteered to purchase them on his behalf.
The choreographer aims to continue inspiring the nation through his content and champion for mental wellness in the country.
