Deputy President William Ruto has unveiled three key allies to lead his campaign team in the vote-rich Mount Kenya region ahead of the August polls.

Comprising of Members of Parliament Alice Wahome, Rigathi Gachagua and Senator Kithure Kindiki, Ruto affirmed that they would pitch camp in the region in order to solicit votes for his Presidential bid.

Further, Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi and his FORD-Kenya counterpart, Moses Wetangula would lead the campaigns in the Western region.

Ruto pointed out that his Presidential bid needed fearless people who would steer the campaigns forward

"We need brave people to unite together. From Gachagua, Wahome, Kindiki, Wetangula and Mudavadi so that we can form a national government," Ruto spoke in Tharaka Nithi County on Saturday, February 19.

The three, perceived as the favourite to clinch the running mate slot, would play a critical role as the DP continues with his charm offensive in the Mt Kenya region.

Further, the DP moved in to quell a looming scramble for the party ticket in the country with the possibility of fallout among the allies.

Among the strategies proposed in order to calm the tension included Kindiki dropping his Gubernatorial bid in favour of other aspirants such as incumbent Muthomi Njuki.

"To you the DP, I appeal to you, when you go to Nairobi don't leave Kindiki on the bench as he is a worthy player who is fit to play in any position that you deem fit. We, on the other hand, are going to sort ourselves out," Njuki stated at the rally.

DP Ruto continues to woo the Mt Kenya region as both him and his arch-rival ODM party leader Raila Odinga, move to consolidate their bases even as the scramble for a slice of President Uhuru Kenyatta's backyard intensifies.

Both aspirants are yet to announce their running mate- a position that many perceive to be reserved for the Mt Kenya region, which has so far produced three of the country's four presidents since independence.

In the case of ODM party leader, Peter Kenneth has been touted as the favourite to be his second in command should the former Premier ascend to the top seat.

"We spoke with the President and we agreed for him to talk to members of ODM, OKA and former Jubilee politicians who left in order to work together as one," Gatanga Member of Parliament Nduati Ngugi recently stated.
