Police Arrested After Robbing Man Ksh2.2M Cash Inside Mall

A police officer was arrested after he allegedly led a gang that robbed a civilian of Ksh2.2 million and other items valued at Ksh134,000.

According to a police report, the officer was directly linked to a robbery with violence incident at a mall in Nairobi's Kasarani area where the Ksh2.2 million was stolen.

The victim told police officers attached to Kasarani Police Station that he was called by a friend who wanted to sell him a power saw and the two agreed to meet at a mall in the area. On arrival, the friend was accompanied by a man not known to the victim.

As the three exchanged pleasantries, they were accosted by three unknown men who identified themselves as police officers. The victim noted that one of the men had a pistol.

The men, who identified themselves as cops handcuffed, the trio and proceeded to ransack the vehicle belonging to the victim, who police identified as a Mr Daniel.

The men took Ksh2.2 million in cash and two laptops valued at Ksh134,000. Further, one of the men wired Ksh2,500 from Daniel's mobile money account and sent it to an account bearing the identity of one Korir Geoffrey.

"They all left together leaving the complainant at the scene of the crime. The victim reported the matter at Kasarani Police Station where investigations commenced.

"Police narrowed down to one Police Constable Geoffrey Korir Kiplagat believed to be attached to Anti-Stock Theft Unit who was arrested within the Kasarani area after being positively identified by the complainant," the police report indicated in part.

The arrest was headed by officers from the Special Crimes Unit who conducted a search and found a laptop, black papers resembling Kenyan currency and a firearm.

"A search was conducted and one HP laptop, grey in colour, black papers resembling Kenyan currency, certificate of appointment, national ID, a mobile phone and one notebook.

"A further search to his residence in Allsops, police recovered one Ceska pistol loaded with 15 rounds of 9mm, one smoke jacket, one jungle trouser, one Red beret and crown badge," police stated.

The cop was taken into custody as police conduct further investigations in the matter and arraign him.
