Baringo Senator Gideon Moi left Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party delegates in stitches while narrating how President Uhuru Kenyatta abandoned him at a protest.
Moi, on Saturday, February 26, recalled that the Head of State ran for his life after police lobbed tear gas at them at Uhuru Park weeks prior to the 2005 referendum.
He added that he was still an inexperienced politician and was left stranded after protesters scattered around the park.
"I remember one time when I was part of the opposition in 2005 and I was still new in Parliament, I took part in a protest for the first time in my life at Uhuru Park.
"When the demonstrations started, President Kenyatta ran off and left me abandoned. When I looked for Deputy President William Ruto, he was somewhere near the goal post," he narrated as he burst into laughter.
However, he stated that it took the intervention of the late Assistant Minister for Security, Orwa Ojode, to save him from the police who were approaching him.
He added Ojode sent some men to protect him and evacuate him to a famous city hotel.
"The late Ojode called me and told me that I had never experienced teargas as a son of a former President. So he sent a few brave men to protect me. They carried me to the city hotel," Moi remembered.
The Baringo Senator joked that he has never envisioned joining the opposition citing his experience at Uhuru Park.
"I am telling you, I never left that hotel for two days. That is the moment I knew of opposition politics and ODM. That is why we (Azimio) don't want to be in the opposition," he stated.
As he narrated the incident, Uhuru, who was also in attendance was seen bursting into laughter and reaching for a glass of water.
Gideon was accompanied by his fellow One Kenya Alliance Principal and the United Democratic Party (UDP) boss Cyrus Jirongo.
