Four people are feared dead following a grisly accident involving a lorry that was ferrying crates of beers at the busy Isiolo Town.
Two pupils are believed to have been among the four pedestrians and were leaving school when the accident occurred.
According to witnesses, the lorry lost control in downtown Isiolo on Monday, February 28, and rammed into buildings as well as the pedestrians at Subuiba junction.
A video seen by Kenyans.co.ke showed an ambulance at the scene of the accident as responders tried to rescue the injured.
A multitude of onlookers from the town had also gathered at the accident scene.
Police rushed to the scene minutes after the matatu collided with the trailer.
The accident comes just hours after five people were killed when a matatu they were travelling in hit a trailer at Nyakome area on the Kisii - Nyamira highway.
Five other people escaped with severe injuries and were rushed to nearby health facilities for treatment.
Over the recent months, road accidents across the country have been on the rise the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).
For instance, the number of road accidents fatalities jumped from 3,707 in 2020 to 4,347 in 2021.
Nairobi County led the fatality cases with 495 cases, followed by Kiambu (425), Machakos (205), Meru (158) and Murang'a recorded 150 fatalities.
The increasing number of accidents has led to a major crackdown in Nairobi with police officers, alongside officials from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), pitching camp on busy highways and routes across the country.
