Citizen TV Rising Star Joins BBC

Citizen TV journalist and one of the rising presenters, Elphas Lagat has joined the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).

A holder of a Bachelor's Degree in Communication and Journalism, Lagat established himself as one of the best journalists in the practice, having a command of both English and Kiswahili.

Lagat joined the Royal Media Services (RMS) as an intern at Citizen TV while a student at Moi University. He immersed himself into the practice and develop skills in live reporting, editing, public speaking, moderating events, creative writing, and copy editing.

He then got an opportunity to work with the Council of Governors between 2016 and 2017, where he was the Director of Devolution Documentaries. He played an oversight role in the production of the documentaries and conducting interviews.

Lagat later worked as a content producer before joining the Standard Media Group as a broadcast journalist in April 2018. He then moved back to Citizen TV in November 2018. 

The journalist established himself as a journalist, managing to report news fluently in both English and Kiswahili, and is a recognised voice-over artist. He also authors and publishes articles for the media house's digital platform.

Between 2015 and 2018, he scripted and produced several documentaries touching on devolution, governance, banking, and human interest pieces. 

Lagat will be joining Dorcas Wangira, a former colleague, who joined BBC in October 2021. Wangira's appointment was confirmed by BBC Africa Health Editor, Anne Mawathe, who welcomed the journalist to the health team.

Another Kenyan journalist, Myra Anubi, also joined the British-owned media franchise. In a statement published on her social media accounts, she announced that she will be joining BBC World.

The former Programmes Controller and presenter at Urban Radio will be a presenter for the People Fixing the World Show. The show is an innovative weekly programme that highlights stories of how individuals use innovation to solve the world's problems. 

"I am excited to announce that I am joining the BBC World Service as a journalist and presenter for People Fixing the World. It feels great to be focusing on solution-driven stories from all across the world while working alongside some incredibly talented people," she wrote.
