Interior Principal Secretary, Karanja Kibicho, confronted a young Deputy President William Ruto's supporter during a public function.
During a FIFA accredited training meeting with young people in Kirinyaga County, PS Kibicho met the young man who was critical of President Uhuru Kenyatta's government due to the hard financial times he experienced.
The young man told the PS that he was supporting Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA) with the hope that it will lower the prices of commodities that the common mwananchi depends on for their day-to-day life.
But the PS asked the young man, who is a father of one if he was aware that the prices of commodities were increasing even in neighbouring countries.
The youthful man, however, told PS Kibicho that he was not cognizant of the prices of basic commodities in neighbouring countries and he was also not informed on the growth of the economy in the last three years.
During the engagement, PS Kibocho asked the young man how the prices of commodities would go down if UDA came into power. The PS told the youth that structures need to be put in place to create employment and President Uhuru Kenyatta had done that.
The young man, who is a boda boda operator, told the PS that he wanted to vote for UDA since DP William Ruto had told them that he will reduce the prices of basic commodities which the locals rely on such as sugar, rice, milk and flour.
PS Kibicho further stated that young people need to start thinking for themselves and avoid being influenced by politicians with promises that are not realistic.
"You are talking about Kenya's economy being bad, but when you look at the statistics, it has actually improved compared to 2019. If you vote for UDA, how will the price of sugar go down?" PS Kibcho posed.
"You are being told that because you are hustlers you will form a government. How will they give you positions in government? There are certain qualifications for that and some of our young people do not have them and that limits them. What we need to do is create avenues for young people to have jobs," he added.
PS Kibicho was engaging young people in Kirinyaga after commissioning 91 out of 100 referees from the county who underwent the FIFA accredited training and graduated with Class Two and Three certifications.
"The referees who have been officiating matches in the grassroots will now be able to officiate FKF matches in Division One and Division Two with a Division One referee earning Ksh6,000 per match while a Division Two referee will earn Ksh4,500 from a low of Ksh500 per match.

"In order to further improve knowledge of the game and better skills and strategies of local football teams, I will be scaling up sponsorship for the training to include coaches.
"I have also officially launched the Karanja Kibicho Tournament Season 2, which will commence on March 19, 2022, to continue nurturing sporting talent as a way of ensuring youth in the county are set on a course towards successful sporting careers in football," the PS remarked.
