Joe Ageyo bid farewell to his colleagues at Royal Media Services (RMS) in an emotional speech even as he prepared to hand over to Linus Kaikai.

In a video posted by Citizen TV anchor Mwashirima Kapombe on Thursday, March 10, the outgoing RMS Editorial Director thanked the team for their support during his tenure at the station.

He also praised Kaikai as a visionary leader who will help the station transition after his exit. Ageyo stated that there was no better leader to head the department than his fellow News Gang member.

During the farewell, the team celebrated him with a cake and wished him well in his next assignment.

"There is so much that is happening in the industry and you need someone who has seen it all and who has the foresight to see what is coming and what is changing, and that person is Linus.

"I wish you the very best and you know that we are together now that we come from the same industry. I will really miss you guys and thank you for the cake," he stated.

Ageyo joined RMS in 2018 as the company was restructuring following the exit of his predecessor and now Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Farida Karoney.  At the time, the outgoing editor was joined by Kaikai who previously served as the Managing Editor at NTV.

However, after four years, RMS Managing Director, Wachira Waruru, announced the exit of  Ageyo, stating the Kaikai would take over from him.

In an internal memo dated March 9, he explained that Ageyo was leaving to pursue other interests outside RMS.

"I wish to announce that Joe Ageyo who has for the last four years served the RMS as Editorial Director is leaving the company to pursue other interests," read the memo in part.

Equally, Waruru stated that the promotion of Kaikai was well deserved stating that the company had trust in him.

"Until this appointment, Linus was a Director of Strategy and Innovation. He retains the two functions alongside his new role. As Editorial Director, Linus will oversee the administrative and editorial functions of our news and current affairs operations across the RMS platforms.

"I congratulate Linus on his appointment and wish him good luck in the execution of his new duties and responsibilities towards accomplishing the goals of the RMS," concluded the memo.
