Uhuru Reshuffles Cabinet After 4 Resignations

President Uhuru Kenyatta has quietly reassigned four ministries that were left vacant following the departure of four Cabinet Secretaries early this year.

Statements shared by the four CSs on varied days hinted that the Head of State might have opted to hand the Ministries over to the remaining team instead of fresh appointments, with months to the general election.

On Saturday, March 19, Defence CS Eugene Wamalwa, in a statement, announced that the President had re-assigned him the devolution docket following the departure of Charles Keter who quit to join elective politics.

"Hit the ground running after returning to the Ministry of Devolution, where l have been appointed by H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta to act as l run the Ministry of Defence, by visiting the Africities Convention Center that’s under construction with the County Government of Kisumu," stated Wamalwa.

Keter left the position and is running for Kericho gubernatorial seat under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party headed by Deputy President William Ruto.

In a separate statement, the Ministry of Water and Sanitation unveiled James Macharia as the new occupant of the office after the departure of Sicily Kariuki. Macharia doubles as the Transport Cabinet Secretary.

Kariuki has already launched her bid for the Nyandarua gubernatorial seat.

Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma roles were expanded to include those of the Petroleum and Mining and Energy docket after John Munyes left to join politics.

Her first assignment was organised by the US Chamber of Commerce which also involved the Ghana's Minister of Energy. It was aimed at discussing sustainable financing of the energy sector.

The final docket, Ministry of East African Community and Regional Development was handed over to the Industrialisation CS Betty Maina.

Adan Mohammed, who held the position, left in February to launch his campaigns in Mandera County where he is seeking the gubernatorial position.

President Kenyatta is rushing rushing against time to complete projects and secure his legacy ahead of the August 9 General Election.
