A former senior reporter at Standard Group has landed a new job at NTV.

Roselyne Obala quietly left the Mombasa Road-based media house without announcing her next move. She had been with the Standard for over 10 years in various positions with her designation being a senior reporter assigned to the Kenya Parliament, political writer, and part of the Kenya State House press corp.

Before her exit, she had been moved to a number of departments within the converged newsroom. In 2021, Obala was appointed Standard Group's Political Affairs Editor but later redeployed to serve as a City Editor.

Obala, a seasoned political reporter will now be NTV's Planning and Research Editor. On Wednesday, March 23, the Media Council of Kenya (MCK) sent a congratulatory message to Roselyne.

"Felicitations on your appointment as Planning and Research Editor at NTV. We are proud of your achievements in the media space and wish you success in your assignment," MCK stated.

Obala has rich experience in journalism. She is a fellow at Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF) and has participated in the support of press freedom and sensitive reporting in Germany.

The veteran reporter was also the first African to be selected to join nine other journalists drawn from various parts of the world for the inaugural prestigious Dongfeng fellowship program in China in 2018.

She is also a member of the MCK board, where she chairs Media Development and Training Committee. Prior to becoming a reporter, Obala had a short stint at the communications department for the County Government of Kisumu.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communication from Maseno University and a Master’s Degree in Development Communication from the University of Nairobi (UoN).

Obala is among the many journalists who have parted ways with the Standard Media Group in recent days, with majority of them crossing over to its rival NMG. NTV has poached a number of top talents from KTN News including Ben Kitili, Lofty Matambo, Fridah Mwaka and Brian Obuya, leaving the station limping.

Other top talents who left the station include Akisa Wandera who joined the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), and Linda Ogutu who was appointed as head of the Secretariat to the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) caretaker committee.

NTV appears to be building a formidable team as the media prepares for election coverage, with the Kimathi Street-based broadcaster signing up the services of Joe Ageyo who was plucked from Citizen TV.
