Media personality Janet Mbugua has explained why she turned down an offer by Gatundu South Member of Parliament to serve as his deputy in Kiambu County.

The former Citizen TV journalist noted that she was not ready to enter into active politics as the country gears up for the August polls.

In the post on her social media on Thursday, March 24, the Inua Dada founder stated that declining the offer by the Chama Cha Kazi party leader does not mean that she will not help and support Kiambu County.

Mbugua thanked Moses Kuria for preferring her to be his running mate in the Kiambu gubernatorial race but noted that she will be spending her time serving women and girls under her foundation.

"Thanks, @HonMoses_Kuria for considering me capable to serve Kiambu County as Deputy Governor.

"Indeed, active engagement in politics isn't for me at the moment. I remain available in support of quality service to the good people of Kiambu & all of Kenya, more so vulnerable women & girls," Janet Mbugua stated.

Kuria had earlier claimed that the journalist was among the favoured candidates for the job which he had advertised. He stated that Mbugua had reached out to him and withdrew from the contest for what he claimed were unprecedented personal reasons.

The Gatundu MP stated that he has suffered a blow after learning from Mbugua that she will not be taking up the role. He noted that he was looking forward to serving Kiambu residents with Mbugua by his side since she is an outstanding professional.

"I am shattered. After scoring the highest marks in the talent search for Kiambu Deputy Governor, Janet Mbugua will not be taking up the job due to unforeseen personal emergencies that she has to attend to in the immediate term," he wrote.

The MP stated that although Mbugua will not be his running mate his administration will work closely with the celebrated media personality after the August polls.

"My administration will definitely find a way to benefit from her experience and capacity in the future. I feel the loss. Janet is a huge inspiration for the youth, for professionals, for women and for young mothers of this country " he remarked.

The outspoken lawmaker declared his bid for the Kiambu Governor seat on February 26. He also joined forces with the Kenya Kwanza coalition which endorsed Deputy President William Ruto for the presidency.
