The Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) has appointed Samuel Maina as the new Managing Director.

In a statement dated Friday, March 25, the Board of Directors of the state-owned broadcaster appointed Maina in an acting capacity.

Board Chairperson, Eng. Benjamin Maingi, stated that Maina will take over from Naim Bilal whose contract expired on March 19 this year.

Maina currently serves as the Corporation’s Editor-In-Chief.

“To ensure continuity and smooth running of the Corporation, the Board of Directors held a Special Board meeting today 25th March 2022 and appointed Samuel Maina to the position of Ag. Managing Director with immediate effect,” a memo from the Board read.

“On behalf of the board, join me in congratulating the Ag. Managing Director, Mr Samuel Maina for the appointment as we wish him the very best in the new role.”

Eng. Maingi stated that Maina will hold the position of acting MD until the post is significantly filled through a competitive process.

The Chairperson asked members of staff to offer Maina full support and cooperation for efficient and effective delivery of services.

At the same time, Eng. Maingi thanked Bilal on behalf of the Board and the KBC community for his services.

Last year, KBC overhauled its flagship brands; KBC Channel 1 TV, Radio Taifa and The English Service and unveiled a new lineup of presenters.

Among the new faces unveiled on the launch day were Tom Mboya, Cynthia Nyamai, Shiksha Arora, John Kioria, Fred Indimuli, Juma Ballo, Harith Salim and Nancy Onyancha.

Celebrated anchor Catherine Kasavuli and the legendary Fayyaz Qureishi, the late Badi Muhsin, Topi Lyambila and Pauline Sheghu also made a comeback on TV.

The veterans host a special Saturday segment dubbed ‘Legends Edition’ while Sunday Express wraps up the week’s news events.

“The ‘Legends’ is only on Saturday at 7pm and 9pm. The market has been yearning for these anchors. The Corporation decided to give them an opportunity to deliver our product to Kenyans. They are also very experienced and will also be training our upcoming anchors to sharpen their anchoring skills,” a letter at the time of relaunch read.
