Details on the whereabouts and mysterious disappearance of a clinical officer, who testified in the Sharon Otieno murder case, have emerged.
Appearing before the Kisii Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) offices on Friday, March 26, Cliff Momanyi and his lawyer, sought to offer an explanation as to why he had gone missing since appearing in court as a key witness in the case involving Migori Governor, Okoth Obado.
Momanyi's lawyer, Nicholas Bosire, stated that the clinical officer switched off his phone after he left the court premise and retreated to his rural home where he was hiding since.
Bosire explained that Momanyi feared for his life after the testimony he gave in court against Governor Obado's Personal Assistant, Michael Oyamo.
Momanyi, who works at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital, stated that his life was in danger, asking the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions to put him under witness protection.
Bosire also asked the media and Kenyans to respect his privacy as an individual and witness who is giving his evidence voluntarily.
He also noted that Momanyi cannot speak on the matter since he has not yet finished testifying in the ongoing murder case against Governor Obado and his assistant.
“His testimony is still ongoing in that murder case. He cannot stand here for an interview. Whether he went back to the family house or not, is not the issue now. Let us just respect his privacy,” Bosire stated.
Momanyi had been reported missing on Thursday, March 24, but resurfaced on Friday, two days after appearing in court as a prosecution witness.
His wife, Mary Kimaiga, had reported to Kisii Police Station that the family had tried to trace his mobile phone, with its last known location being Bomet before it was switched off.
Momanyi was expected home on Wednesday, March 23, but failed to show up. Kamaiga revealed that she had no clue that her husband was a witness in the case until she watched the news.
“My husband was supposed to come back on Wednesday night but he is not yet home, his phone indicates that he was last online at around 7:29 pm on Tuesday, March 22.
"As a family, we are very much worried now that we know the matter he was involved in,” she stated at the time.
Kimaiga added that it was unlike for her husband to switch off his phone, expressing fear of what could have happened to the medic.
