Uganda's President, Yoweri Museveni's dress code at a meeting in State House, Nairobi elicited public debate after the images were shared online.
In the images shared by Museveni on his official social media account on Friday, April 9, the Ugandan President was pictured wearing a white shirt and an oversize jacket while his East African counterparts wore suits and a tie.
Museveni was in the company of Presidents Uhuru Kenyatta (Kenya), Paul Kagame (Rwanda), and Felix Tshisekedi (Congo). The leaders officially welcomed Congo to the East Africa Community (EAC).
Consequently, Kenyans took to social media to discuss Museveni's choice of attire for the regional bloc's event,
A section of online users joked that the visiting Head of State was wearing a cold-weather jacket on a sunny day in Nairobi.
Others believed that Museveni should have won official attire for the event like his counterparts.
"We are not yet in Winter, Why is Museveni wearing such an oversize coat at State House?" Francis Otieno, a Twitter user stated.
However, others supported Museveni stating that he was in order not to wear a suit at the official function.
"I like the way Museveni dresses. No official clothes. Keep it up. This business of wearing suits and ties came from the Western countries, Abu Ahlaam, a Facebook user stated.
"Museveni is the man of the day, a very simple man," Cleophas Mgagaa concurred.
During the event, Museveni further caused a stir when he greeted the delegation in the Luhya dialect. He created a light moment from it stating that only Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa would understand the vernacular language.
The Ugandan President explained that there was a need for integration among EAC member communities to celebrate African cultures.
"Mulembe (Hi) I am speaking to the CS (Wamalwa). He comes from Western Kenya and he can understand me. I can go to DRC and address a public meeting in my language and people will understand," he expressed.
